For my money, the best of the 1000 releases in this killer Library series, which, to be fair, I’ve probably only heard about 50. So really #1 of 1/20th of total output, but that’s still sort of impressive, especially as they’re up against the Alan Hankshaws (Mohawks) releases as well. I knew a guy once who said he had every single KPM, and maybe he did. Duprat, who also recorded under the squirrelly cold war alias Ivan Roskov, is a Brazilian arranger and composer who also plays some instruments, although what instruments those might be are never entirely clear. In any case, this record is slick bossa soul action that gets weird and funky in just the right ways, exactly as expected. Killer percussion (especially on “Percussion Highway”), plus funky bass, horns (big baritone sound), synths, git-wah, and trap drums. It’s the soundtrack to a movie you definitely want to see but never will. Tuff action.
