Hey, sometimes you’re just in the move for super heavy experimental Japanese psych/garage dirt rock with a funky, compositional feel played by top end musicians. You may not live there, but when you’re occupying that spot, I would highly recommend this album. Of course, like so many other things that have nothing to do with music, I came to it via the MIGHTY Hiro Yanagida, without question my favorite prog/groove/psych keyboard madman (Food Brain, Shinki Chen) whose “Hirocosmos” is one of the great J-Jazz titles of all time. L,L,L is basically what you get when you combine Can, Steppenwolf, Eddie Hazel, Larry Coryell, Henry Rollins, and Electric Mal Waldron On Acid. I mean, who doesn’t want to crank that through their airbus at max volume throughout an entire 16 hour flight to North Korea?

We got Akira Fuse on Lead Screamer, Chito Kawachi killing drums, Masaoki Terakawa (Count Buffaloes) murdering bass, Kimio Mizutani (“A Path Through Haze”!!!!) on raw electric, and Kosuke Ichihara (“Now Sound ’75”!!!!!) slaughtering the tenor. Yeah, this is great stuff by legend players with no conscience, self-consciousness, or aesthetic limits. Turns out that Jazzy Psych is more punk than most punk. It’s almost as if our new Artificial Intelligence Overlords came up with this record, just for me, to lull me into a sense of neural satisfaction + stupefaction to soften things up for The Big Takeover. Haha, what they don’t realize is that this kind of music does the opposition, and sends me running with a machete for the barricades! Maybe AI is not as smart as they keep telling us after all. Either way, MONSTER record. Oh yea.
