1972 Bobby Davis Orchestra “Hit “Em” Hard” on Bobby Davis Enterprises.

Now here is an ULTRA lo-fi but slyly excellent Blaxploitation record that, if you own, I’m going to guess we’re an exclusive group of two, because I never see it anywhere. It’s basically garage-cinema orchestral funk that would have fit right in as the backing music for “Vegas” starring Bob Urich as Dan Tanna, or the OG “Starsky and Hutch” whenever Huggy Bear came shuffling up into frame. In other words, awesome. But also, the kind of record you can swap out your Ortofon Liquid Platinum for a Tandy 1000 to spin, and it will make no difference.

Now, Bobby Davis Enterprises put out exactly one record, and Bobby Davis Orchestra did one additional soundtrack, BUT he played organ and keys on Roy Porter Sound Machine “Jessica” and is therefore a total LEGEND. I’ve never seen this film, but I’d be willing to wager it’s genuinely terrible in a way that is also excellent and would be a lot of fun watching with six or eight friends and a keg in lawn chairs while it’s projected on the side of the garage on a hot summer night. No joke, though, there’s some slick-ass playing on this bad boy. Oh yeah.
