1972 Vincent Gemignani “Musique Pour Un Voyage Extraordinaire” on Musique Pour L’Image

For as great as this record is, it’s strange that Gemignani really only has a few titles to his name, although he appears on a few Ensemble De Percussion De Paris sides. While mostly a composer/drummer he also seems to have invented any number of odd percussion instruments, most famously the Bronté (which means thunder in ancient Greek), a nickel and silver keyboard amplified by a resonator. I REALLY want to play one, but alas, the only Bronté at Castle Wax is the occasional spin of live Pantera. In any case, this ultra-hip record his is mostly avant/cultish experimental clubby groove Third Stream jazz rock that could easily be the soundtrack to the pleasingly drugged haze of your recuperation from knee surgery, or the delicate, nuanced, sometimes aggressively weird tunes that allow you not to divorce your wife from the passenger seat while stuck on the 405 outside of Burbank. An action, it should be mentioned, we do not endorse. In any case, check out the very dark and earthy ambient stomp of “Insidieusement les Elfes” should you require any convincing. Also, the cover rules!
