1982 Lincoln Olivetti & Robson Jorge “Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti” on Som Livre

Now here’s a genuinely killer record that punches way above its weight class, or at least price, as it’s a super-funky synth boogie dance-samba Rio banger that in lesser hands would probably sound a lot like Oingo missing a Boingo. It’s just good time hot summer top down jams that knows enough not to spell itself jamZ, and is basically Rio Disco Cortex. Dudes only put out one record before transitioning into production and handling the latest titles of lots of huge names (Gal, Gilberto, Erasmo, Tim, Caetano, etc). I mean, yeah, this is City Synth Pop and not for a second pretends to be anything more or less than Proto dance love. I feel like if this record had made it to the States, it would have been vying with Sade for who had a bigger string of smooth AF radio hits that everyone knew were just really good music to copulate to.

Hey, maybe I’m old school, but I’d rather listen to a couple Brazilian dudes slapping together sexy grooves than sit through another white rock band belting inane lyrics about how good they are at having sex with groupies. Man, this slab is recorded so perfectly, with such a sharp edge, you could trim the hedge with it. Here’s one sentence that’ll let you know exactly how this record sounds: I popped it on loud, and Missus Wax, stirring up some fry in front of the stove, started shaking it and singing lyrics into the spatula, and after a while looked over at me with a grin and said, “Who IS this? I LOVE this!” Bam.
